If you have played on our Survival or Skygrid worlds, you have almost certainly used Slimefun. It is the plugin behind many of our machines, tools, gadgets, and automation systems, and it has been a huge part of the AddstarMC experience for years.
Recently, the Slimefun developers announced that active development has officially ended after more than twelve years. The final version released earlier this year was marked as experimental for Minecraft 1.21, and no further updates or fixes will be made.
What this means for us?
Slimefun is deeply tied into our worlds, including player data, exotic garden trees/crops, machines, cargo systems and androids. Because of that, it cannot be safely removed without resetting the entire world.
We have been wanting to upgrade our servers to Minecraft 1.21 for quite some time, but now that Slimefun’s development has ended, that upgrade becomes more complicated. The last build works partially in newer versions, but comes with several bugs and compatibility issues that could affect gameplay.
At this stage, there is no clear path forward. We will need to experiment, test community forks, and explore every possible option before making any decisions.
So what’s next?
- Testing Slimefun’s final 1.21 build in a controlled environment.
- Reviewing community-maintained forks to see if any are stable enough for long-term use.
- Evaluating which features can safely be disabled if needed to maintain stability.
- If required, fixing issues in the code ourselves to keep the plugin functioning on future Minecraft versions.
If none of these options prove reliable, our only other choice would be to reset affected worlds to remove Slimefun completely. This would only happen as a last resort and with plenty of notice to players.
Nothing changes yet!
We know how important Slimefun is to many of you. It is a major part of what makes AddstarMC special. Our goal is to preserve your progress and creativity wherever possible, and we will communicate openly as we test and plan the next steps.
For now, nothing will change immediately. We will continue running our existing 1.20.4 worlds while we investigate. Once we have a clearer direction, we will post another update with what we have learned and what is next for Survival and Skygrid.
Thank you for your patience, your builds, and your endless curiosity. Slimefun may have reached its end, but AddstarMC will keep finding ways to bring creativity and discovery to life ❤️
